Experiences of Interns and Graduates

Thomas Djurrema
HBO-ICT Sofware Engineering at Saxion Hogeschool Deventer
During my internschip at Inversable I developed a weather microservice. This weather service retrieves weather-data from multiple data providers and saves it in a database. Other developers within Inversable can use this data for their own applications.
I enjoyed having a lot of freedom while working on my assignment. It was totally fine to spend a couple of days learning a new technology or making a small prototype as practice.
I learned that you should not be scared to share your own ideas and solutions. At the start of my internship, I mainly did what I was told to do. But after the first few weeks, I was able to share my own ideas which in turn led to valuable discussions with my supervisor and better software solutions.

At Inversable, specifically Voorstroom, I worked on a manual that energy co-operatives could use to realize an energy project. This manual had to be made in such a way that the needs of the user and the demands from Voorstroom were met. I also did research on UX and UI and used the results to better adjust the manual to the user’s needs.
What I enjoyed most about my internship was that interns get a lot of responsibilities at Inversable. What you work on is of value to the project and they actually want you to make useful contributions.
The most important thing that I learned during my internship was the importance of critical thinking and to voice out your thoughts. This doesn’t mean, unfortunately, that I have mastered these skills. But I did learn their importance, so now I am more conscious of my professional development. Another valuable lesson that I have learned is that it is important to be proactive. Don’t be afraid to make things and ask questions. People are more than happy to answer your questions and are excited when you make new things.
